August 24th 2010, Lola visited the "Zeehondencreche" in Pieterburen, Groningen, the Netherlands.
It deals with the Refugee for Seals, founded by Lenie 't Hart who takes care of saving, giving hospitality, assisting all the seals happening to be along the Dutch beaches, for the most part of reasons. victims of the pollution or the illegal hunting.
Lenie 't Hart, began her activity in 1971, treating the seals in difficulty, directly in the courtyard of her house, in the country of Pieterburen, North of Holland. During the years, Lenie has given life in Pieterburen to a real hospital, (the "Zeehondencreche") recognized at international level, supported by the Dutch Royal House.
All the seals are housed and cured in the Medical Division of the Refugee of Pieterburen and, once out of danger, they are released back into the wild in the North Sea, a sort of ceremony more followed from the Dutch information means.
The Zeehondencreche activity in Pieterburen, is based on funds and donations and the help of private people, enterprises and institutions; each has the possibility to adopt a little seal contributing to his/her maintenance up to their release in the North Sea.
Also Lola has given her contribution: giving 500 Eur; she has adopted THEO, a two-months-old Phoca Vitulina male, found in August 17th 2010, on a beach in the Province of Zeeland.
At the adoption date, Theo weighed around 19 kgs, over 50% more than the period in which he was found: a good result, but not yet enough to be released back into the wild. At the end of the quarantine period, in fact, Theo will move to another refugee department, and only when he will reach a weight around 35/38 kgs, he will go back to the North Sea.
Lola’s adoption of Theo, has directly been followed by Lenie 't Hart, to whom will reserve all our affection and special thank.
After a few months of good care and rest, Theo was strong enough to be brought back to the sea. Theo is released on the 14th of November 2010, in Zeeland Province, in a beach near Renesse.
